Definition of the SME has been extended

The government is moving ahead in providing more assistance to Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SME).

Generally, SMEs are defined into two broad categories :

1. Manufacturing, Manufacturing-Related Services and Agro-based industries

” SMEs in the manufacturing, manufacturing related services and agro-based industries are enterprises with full-time employees not exceeding 150 persons or with annual sales turnover not exceeding RM25million ”

2. Services, Primary Agriculture and Information & Communication (ICT)

” SMEs in the services, primary agriculture and Information & Communication Technology (ICT) sectors are enterprises with full-time employees not exceeding 50 persons or with annual sales turnover not exceeding RM5million ”

The definition of Small Medium Enterprise (SME) has been extended to cover the agricultural and services sectors based on turnover and number of employees. The criteria are as follows :
